MaryLou Hurley
Self-taught, local artist, MaryLou Hurley has been experimenting with mosaic art for over 10 years. Her studio on Innis Lake Road in Caledon East offers mosaic workshops as well as a place to view and purchase her work. She also does custom orders when a special gift or piece is desired. In her studio you will find mosaically transformed furniture, unique wall hangings and even guitars covered in mosaic art!
"I get the most satisfaction from what you may call creative recycling! This desire, combined with a little patience, is well-suited to the exciting art of mosaic! The design possibilities are infinite and I find inspiration from the ever-changing raw material on hand. I use pieces of tile, glass, mirror, fine china, dishes, teacups, plates, stones, shells, old jewelry and even toys…anything that will make my work colorful, unique and interesting."
For many years, she has instructed mosaic classes for the popular CACY (Caledon Arts and Crafts for Youth) summer program. After 12 years as a CACY volunteer, she was elected president in 2007. MaryLou also does volunteer work at Peace Ranch, a local farm residence for serious mental illness, where under her guidance, various art and mosaic classes have become a weekly part of the 'day' program. " I love sharing my art; I enjoy seeing the happiness people find in their own creativity and my reward is the inspiration I experience along the way."
MaryLou is also an avid photographer. It is no surprise that she has taken photos of her art work and introduced a colorful collection of mosaic greeting cards!
